The Why Cafe

I love books you can read in a day. I also love books that make you reevalute your life to see if you're on the right path. This book is both. Join John as he finds himself in the Why Cafe in the middle of nowhere. John finds exactly what he needs in the questions on the menu and the people he meets.
  • Why are you here?
  • Do you fear death?
  • Are you fulfilled?

Come visit us and read the Why Cafe.

Greetings from the Stone Turtle,

Danielle

Happy Monday!

Here's a picture from Prairie Balm Herbals' last walk/class at the Stone Turtle - Lodging! We found this beautiful butterfly sitting on some yarrow. Yarrow is also known as Achillea millefolium. Achilles used yarrow to heal wounds on the battlefields of Troy.

Yarrow is a powerful healing herb for wounds, cuts and abrasions. Some of its common names reflect the healing properties such as staunch weed and soldier's wound wort. It's also great for fever.

Have a lovely Monday,

Danielle

Another lovely week comes to a close at the Stone Turtle Lodging. Sprocket and I took a little break and rolled in the field of plantain. I asked Ingrid to describe plantain in one word. Her answer was Wundermittel (panacea). At the Stone Turtle, we commonly refer to plantain as Jenny's herb because it's one of her favorite herbs to use (we don't blame her!). Jenny is a local herbalist who offers classes and consultations. She'll be hosting another walk/class at the Stone Turtle June 27! Interested? Check out her website: Prairie Balm Herbals

We're excited about Jenny's upcoming walk!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend,

Danielle

A new book for Faith!

We have a new book! This book is special to us. The picture on the cover was taken from our location! Dr. Basil Moss was the grandson of the Crains, the family who first homesteaded our land.
It was another hot summer in Oklahoma as we walked back up the road from a lovely country wedding. It was somewhat odd to find two people standing in our arena looking around. To our surprise, it happened to be Dr. Moss and his aunt. To the aunt's surprise we had saved a lot of the treasures we found (marbles, silverware, pieces of china). We had the pleasure of hearing stories of the Crain children playing with marbles and of how the family came to Oklahoma. The tale of the quest over the Red River can be read in Back Roads and Buffalo Trails.

The theme for Hope's middle bedroom has officially been picked. Sleeping Beauty. So here's a picture of the half-way mark of one of my many projects. Hula hoops covered in ribbons representing the colors worn by the fairy godmothers in the movie. Green is still being ribbon-ed.

TRIVIA: How many fairies were in the original fairytale?

I'm impatiently awaiting fairy lights for this project. So many fun projects for the Stone Turtle! The Alice in Wonderland themed wall is growing, too. Not literally. I mean, the wall itself hasn't grown at all. Things are getting curiouser and curiouser.

Have a lovely week,

Danielle
