That Stone Turtle Vibe

The Stone Turtle is special. Not just because it's the home of 5 million different colors, but it's got a this vibe. One you feel when you make a cup of coffee and curl up with a good book (like the Why Cafe - one of our faves!), or when you sit on the deck and watch the sun set behind the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Honestly, it's just something you have to experience for yourself, which you can through Air BnB.

5.5

5.5.
The number of years we have been business.
 It's been a grand time.
We've had so much fun decorating,
finding books and movies, and meeting people
from all over the world.

We are sad and happy to inform you that
we will no longer be accepting reservations.
Sad because our lodging journey is ending.
Happy because something new is blossoming.
Quite literally as Prairie Herbcraft will continue
to grow and host workshops at
the Stone Turtle.
Thank you all for supporting us!
We couldn't have had this wonderful
experience without you!

Greetings from the Stone Turtle,
Danielle & Ingrid

April 29, 2015

The theme for Hope's middle bedroom has officially been picked. Sleeping Beauty. So here's a picture of the half-way mark of one of my many projects. Hula hoops covered in ribbons representing the colors worn by the fairy godmothers in the movie. Green is still being ribbon-ed.

TRIVIA: How many fairies were in the original fairytale?

I'm impatiently awaiting fairy lights for this project. So many fun projects for the Stone Turtle! The Alice in Wonderland themed wall is growing, too. Not literally. I mean, the wall itself hasn't grown at all. Things are getting curiouser and curiouser.

Have a lovely week,

Danielle

January 9, 2015

Another January day! So thankful the sun came back out! We've been staying busy at the Stone Turtle. Still working on the Alice in Wonderland wall. It's about to get mad as a hatter! Quite literally as there's a mad hatter hat tutorial screaming to be tried out. I'll probably be the one screaming (I'm not a patient crafter...).

We did pick up a copy of Stage Coach (with John Wayne!) and a beautiful illustrated book with tales from Hans Christian Andersen. Both of which are now residing in Hope.

Who's ready for some warmer temperatures? I know I'm ready to get some projects started in the common garden of Faith and Hope. Enchantment shouldn't be limited to the indoors, right? Right.
Have a wonderful weekend and fun travels,

Danielle

Hello, 2015!

Hello lovely readers!

Please accept our heartfelt wishes for the year 2015! We hope everyone of you has a wonderful, healthy and happy year!

As many of you may know, Hope's theme is fairy tales. It's such a fun project turning one of our vacation homes into something whimsical and special. It's a never-ending project of a small touch here, a small touch there and occasionally a larger project thrown in (like painting the exterior of Hope...). We have so much fun thinking of new ways to put love into our business. Our concept is different from all the other lodging places in the area. Most hotel chains in Lawton do not have a theme. They're chains after all. And the lodging in Medicine Park tends to be rustic (perfect for Medicine Park), but that's just not us.

Personally, I'm all about whimsy and spunk. And, I love bright colors! I also like thinking outside of the box, so there's a lot of upcycling at the Stone Turtle - Lodging. Sometimes I find furniture pieces that don't quite fit yet, so they get a temporary spot. Some furniture gets swapped between homes. Some stuff just fits right off the bat. Some pieces of furniture get a makeover. Most furniture and deco pieces get moved around many times before they find a permanent home.

Here's a little upcycle project you could find in Hope's Beauty and the Beast room if you booked a weekend stay at the Stone Turtle Lodging, or if you're in town for a Fort Sill Graduation!

Greetings from the Stone Turtle!

Danielle

Fall Kayaking

If you're a kayaking fool like we are then do we have some tips for you! If you find yourself in Southwest Oklahoma make sure you bring your mountain bike and kayak. Not only can you kayak around Lake Lawtonka, but the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge has quite a few lakes open to the public as well.

Lakes for kayakers:

Lake Jed Johnson

French Lake
Rush Lake
Quanah Parker

Elmer Thomas

Of course, if it's your first time kayaking in the Wichita Mountains it's always a good idea to check in at the Visitor Center for the latest information.

Project Decorating Hope Continues

Happy Thursday!

We are loving July! It's been a super fun month filled with lovely guests at the Stone Turtle - Lodging. We're even getting a little break from the summer heat with a rainy week. There's nothing like a mandatory break from outside work to get the creative gears grinding.

Our rental cabin Hope has been in the cross-hairs of our decorating frenzy lately. As Ingrid and I were browsing through a shabby chic shop (yes, Lawton actually has one), we came to the conclusion that clothes can be used for decoration. More specifically fancy, schmancy dresses can be great accent pieces. So we rushed to a thrift shop to try our luck. As luck would have it, we found this amazing Cinderella type dress. We also picked up a Happily Ever After sign. Boy, do we love fate.

What makes you feel like you're in a fairy tale?
